Understanding Vitamin E
The most important take-away point of this page is that vitamin E is a family of eight compounds - four tocopherols and four tocotrienols. For a long time here at YASOO (and recently among scientists and clinicians), we believed that the whole family of tocopherols and tocotrienols is important to the role of vitamin E.
Why is this important? Because most vitamin E supplements contain only alpha-tocopherol and those that claim to have mixed tocopherols may not have any significant amount of the other tocopherols and tocotrienols. In addition, you cannot get the amount of vitamin E necessary to prevent disease from food.
